My work experience as a digital marketer showed me how innovation give companies an edge in penetrating markets faster and provides a better connection to developing markets. I find the process of uncovering new ways to do things very intriguing. I believed Investa Innovation Institute would serve as good platform for me to ideate and learn about what drives innovation in companies.

What did you expect when starting an internship with the innovation team?
A chance to learn valuable skills by working with a diverse team and gain useful experience that would drive professional and personal growth while exploring new avenues of innovation.

What surprised you at the start of your internship?
I was surprised by the work culture at Investa. The team is so lively and friendly, where people are always open to new discussions. I love how everybody are easily approachable with an open door policy, this is something that I haven’t experienced before.

What have been the top 3 key learnings so far during the internship?
-    Understood how existing and new business models could be modified and adapted to changes to gain maximum value.
-    Developed an understanding of how an existing prototype could be operationalised in an organisation.
-    Learnt how to evaluate and assess companies while running a procurement program.

What is your advice for people who are wanting to break into the innovation industry?
Innovation is not just about being creative but also strategic. One should be comfortable with ambiguity and sail without direction to be successful in this field. Making creativity a habit and learning how to think out of the box is crucial to be good at innovation.
