A five tonne load limit has been installed on Brickmakers Drive in Moorebank, restricting truck access and improving the amenity for Georges Fair residents.
Brickmakers Drive is a two kilometre route linking Newbridge Road and Nuwarra Road in Moorebank, and providing access to Georges Fair. The road opened in September 2012 and since then, Investa and the local community have lobbied Council and the State government to implement the heavy vehicle load limit.
Signs were installed along Brickmakers Drive on Thursday, to the delight of Georges Fair residents and the estate’s owner, Investa Land (‘Investa’).
“We are pleased to see that five tonne load limit signs have been erected along Brickmakers Drive and that large trucks will no longer be able to use this route,” said Mr Nathan Huon, Development Director, Investa Land.
“Investa has actively lobbied Council to install this load limit for several years and we are delighted that Council has now acted to improve the quality of life for current and future Georges Fair residents,” Mr Huon said.
Liverpool City Council required the construction of Brickmakers Drive as part of the rezoning of the former Boral brickworks prior to the construction of Georges Fair. During the design phase, Investa successfully negotiated for the inclusion of traffic slow points and a reduced 50 km per hour speed limit.
Two roundabouts and several pedestrian islands which prevent vehicles from exceeding the 50km per hour speed limit have also been incorporated in the road’s design, to minimise heavy vehicle movements.
Investa is supportive of another positive traffic management initiative recently undertaken by Liverpool City Council. Following representations by Georges Fair residents and a review by Council's Technical Services Group, Council has completed line marking on Christiansen Boulevard and Maddecks Avenue.
