Sparkling Santas, smiling snowmen and flashing reindeer are among the decorations bringing the festive spirit to Georges Fair in the community’s annual Christmas Lights competition.
Winners of the competition were announced at the annual Community Christmas event, attended by apprimxaltey 200 residents who came together to celebrate the start of the festive season.
As the Mystery Judge, Liverpool Mayor Ned Manoun selected the Overall Winner and Runner Up of the competition. The winner received a $500 Westfield Gift card. Prizes were also awarded to the Runner Up, People’s Choice and Kid’s Choice winners.
The home of Mr and Mrs Jones in Sims Street was selected as the overall winner. The couple began decorating their home in November, having taken numerous weekends and weeknight evenings to decorate with hundreds of lights.
“We do it every year because we love the excitement of the children who come by each evening. That’s why we go to the effort, for the smiles on the faces of the children,” said Jones.
This is the third year that Investa Land, owner of Georges Fair, has staged the Christmas Lights competition and it has become a highlight on the community’s calendar.
“The competition incentivises residents to decorate their homes and helps to bring the spirit of Christmas to the estate. We have a culturally diverse community and although many families don’t celebrate Christmas, most look forward to taking their children to look at the lights,” said Mr Nathan Huon, Project Director NSW, Investa Land.
“There’s a strong sense of community at Georges Fair and this is particularly noticeable during the holiday season when neighbours mingle in the streets once the sun goes down,” he said.
Georges Fair is one of Sydney’s most sought-after master planned residential communities. Throughout 2013 the community has recorded an unprecedented demand for land, with each of its land releases selling out quickly, many within hours of their release.
“It has been an exceptional year for Georges Fair. 160 lots of land have sold since January 2013. Land in the Playfield release has almost sold out, with 90% of lots selling within two hours of their release,” said Mr Huon.
Demand for land at Georges Fair exceeds the average for new residential estates in Sydney. Its popularity demonstrates that the estate’s proximity to Sydney’s CBD and major transport routes, and its master planning which has delivered tree-lined avenues and leafy community parks, appeal to a wide range of home buyers.
The Georges Fair Sales and Information Centre is located on the corner of Nuwarra Road and Maddecks Avenue, Moorebank and is open from 10am to 5pm, seven days a week.
