Plastic free July in action

Plastic free July

To celebrate Plastic Free July, we launched the Sustain-a-Bowl Pantry - a reusable container program for our employees in our corporate offices in Melbourne and Sydney. The initiative aimed to reduce single-use packaging and improve waste stream quality.

After one month of use:

  • Over 1,000 takeaway containers and cups were diverted from landfill,
  • 7.6kg reduction in landfill waste in July (when compared to July 2024),
  • Mixed recycling waste stream contamination dropped by 55% in July (compared to the average from April to June),
  • Organic waste stream contamination dropped by 27% in July (compared to the average from April to June).

We saw an opportunity to make it easier for our employees to do the right thing with a simple, accessible solution. As a result, cleaner waste streams show that our people are making more thoughtful choices, putting the right items in the right bins.

For Plastic Free July, our managed office building activations supported our customers to improve their waste performance through reducing single-use plastic consumption in partnership with our retailers, who offered discounts on all food and beverage purchased in reusable containers. Over 4,000 single use items were recorded as diverted from landfill as a result.
