Patients visiting Liverpool Hospital for renal dialysis can now watch television during their treatment, following the purchase of fourteen televisions with funds raised by the Georges Fair community.

Georges Fair’s Spring Fair raised in excess of $10,000 towards the cost of wall-mounted televisions in the renal unit. Patients requiring dialysis spend four hours a day, three times each week receiving treatment, often for many years.

Georges Fair is a residential community on the former site of the Boral brickworks at Moorebank. The vibrant neighbourhood has transformed the site which is now home to approximately 1000 families.

Representatives from Georges Fair met with patients and staff of Liverpool Hospital’s renal ward this morning to see for themselves the difference made by the television sets.

“Everyone involved in the Georges Fair Spring Fair was delighted to be able to assist Liverpool Hospital to purchase these televisions, which improved the hospital experience for so many people,” said Nathan Huon, Project Director NSW, Investa Land.

“Hopefully the televisions will help patients to take their mind off their treatment and make the experience less daunting, especially for younger and recently diagnosed patients,” Mr Huon said.

Georges Fair’s Spring Fair is a spectacular community event which has raised more than $37,000 for Liverpool Hospital over four years.

Funds raised since 2011 have enabled the Hospital to purchase a sophisticated audio system through which palliative care patients can listen to their preferred music, portable pain management ‘TENS’ machines, a blanket warming machine, a double bed and several other much needed items.

“Liverpool Hospital greatly appreciates the support of Georges Fair and all those local families who attended the Spring Fair and contributed to the purchase of these television sets,” said Robynne Cooke, General Manager, Liverpool Hospital.

"Our renal unit staff are pleased with the more relaxed, comfortable environment they can offer to patients undergoing treatment," Ms Cooke said.

Investa Land, developer of Georges Fair sponsored the Spring Fair. With the company’s support, all proceeds from the sale of ride tickets, market stall holder fees and hundreds of dollars in donations from attendees was donated to Liverpool Hospital.
