Each year Investa replaces thousands of square metres of office floor coverings for our tenants, a process that involves considerable cost and environmental impact. Modular carpet tiles help minimise this waste because damaged areas can be targeted for removal and replacement while other areas can be left untouched. This sound approach is being complimented by our major floor covering supplier InterfaceFLOR. The majority of carpets installed in Investa buildings are now made with 80% recycled yarns and recycled vinyl backings. In addition, a large proportion of the worn out carpet is reclaimed via InterfaceFLOR's ReEntry™ program. An example of this put into practice during the period was the refurbishment of 242 Exhibition Street, Melbourne where over 60,000 square metres of old carpet was diverted from landfill for re-use and 11 tonnes of cardboard boxes were recycled. The project delivered significant financial savings and was carried out with virtually no inconvenience to tenants using InterfaceFLOR's Renovisions™ furniture lifting system - a system that jacks up furniture high enough to slip out the old carpet and install new tiles without any relocation required. InterfaceFLOR has been focused on reducing the environmental impact of its manufacturing processes since 1994, a journey they call Mission Zero™: the promise to eliminate any negative impact their organisation may have on the environment by the year 2020. |
