Materials Use

In our last report we stated that we would commence detailed reporting of construction materials and site environmental issues (mass and volume) for all developments commencing site works after 1 April 2007. We are able to provide the total material quantities for built form that has commenced construction in the reporting period (see below). In the next year we will look at how we can be minimise the impact of this material use.

Cut and Fill on Land Developments sites

This year we collected statistics on the balance of ‘cut and fill’ from civil works for development projects that were active during the period. There was 898,070m3 cut and 740,582m3 fill with some cut soil and rock remaining on site for future use. On one site it is estimated that 64,602 m3 of cut was rock that was crushed and re-used on site. A total of 89,343m3 was removed from development sites. Of this 43,000 m3 was removed to a neighbouring site for their use. We now require our contractors to supply detailed waste diversion statistics which will be presented in future reports.

Given that a significant percentage of the 107,672 m3 removed off site (ie 175,589 – 67,917) was rock, there is an assumption that 60% of the rock was crushed and re-used, leaving 40% or 43,070 m3 which was the likely net m3 removed off-site.
